When the shepherds were encountered by an angel of the Lord, in their place of work out in the fields, the glory of the Lord shone. Their response, as of many who encounter God, was the healthy one of “fear”. Yet the angel tells them not to fear: “a Saviour who is Christ the Lord is born this day in the city of David”. Fear is to be replaced with joy. What an exchange!
The sign of a baby in a manger was confirmed by the shepherds visit and they then spread the joy by telling others. That is something that we need to consciously and sensitively do. Sometimes we need to change our mindset and then open our mouths to do it: to tell others the Good News, out of the overflow of joy.
We can also learn from Mary, who “pondered these things in her heart”. You won’t find ten minutes to do that but you can make ten minutes.
