Jesus, in His peerless teaching, told His disciples to “seek”: “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)
What are “all these things” to which Jesus refers? They are the basics of everyday life, the worries of which result in anxiety (see verses 25-34). The worries which can overtake us: How will I pay the mortgage/rent? What about the future with a poor pension? How will I get my children through university? How will they get a mortgage? Will I have enough to live on? What if I have an illness? (How different a list would this be in the developing world? E.g can I make the 20 mile round trip to gather water? Etc.)
Jesus tells us to prioritise our thinking, to seek God and His rule before everything else. God is a caring Father who provides what we need. We can trust Him.
So seek Him first.
